The operating cable for the grey water valve on the Rialta is designed so that
it takes a 180 degree bend before it actually actuates the flapper to open the valve.
Since this cable is exposed to the elements underneath the vehicle, it also has
a tendency to become stiff to operate because of rust and debris in the cable sheath.
All of that coupled with the 180 degree bend means the flapper valve seldom gets
fully closed and as a result, the drain connection will sometime fill with a cup
or two of water which embarrassingly splashes to the ground when you remove the
cap.
There are two modifications shown here. The first simply adds another gate valve
right at the discharge opening which is easily operated by a slide lever. The second
creates a lever arrangement which avoids the 180 degree bend in the cable and greatly
increases the force when the valve is closed.
