A nice way to help prevent such unsightly marks and keep the paint and finish on the front end looking new is to install a "front end bra". You can actually buy just the top part which merely fits over the front 12" or so of the hood but I strongly recommend that you get the complete "2-piece" set which includes the hood piece and a lower portion which covers the entire front grill and bumper area. Volkswagen no longer markets their OEM brand. There are several other third party manufacturers who market a similar bra and several enthusiasts claim at least one brand is superior to the VW brand. Prices are generally in the $40-$50 range.

If
you do a lot of highway traveling (and isn't that just what the Rialta was designed
for) then I'm sure everyone has a few nicks and dimples in the paint on the front
end of the Rialta caused by bugs and other road debris being kicked up by other
vehicles.
